How to choose ice hockey rink glass?
When building an ice hockey rink, it is very important to choose the right glass. Glass is not only related to the safety of the audience, but also affects the use of the rink. There are currently two main types of common ice hockey rink glass: tempered glass and laminated glass. Both types of glass have their own characteristics and applicable scenarios.
🔹Advantages of tempered glass
- High strength: The strength of tempered glass is 4 to 5 times that of ordinary glass, and it can withstand high-speed impact of ice hockey.
- Good heat resistance: It can withstand temperature changes and is not easy to break.
- Break safe: If it really breaks, it will break into small particles with blunt angles, which is not easy to hurt people.
- Smooth surface: Clear vision, more comfortable for the audience to watch the game.
🔹Advantages of laminated glass
- High safety: A layer of PVB film is sandwiched between two pieces of glass. Even if it breaks, it will not fall apart. It can stick together firmly to prevent glass fragments from splashing.
- Good sound insulation effect: The sandwich structure helps to reduce noise and is suitable for venues with high environmental requirements.
- Longer service life: Suitable for ice hockey rinks with large traffic and higher safety standards.
- Stronger anti-collision performance: suitable for intense competition or children's ice hockey courts.
Both types of glass have their own advantages when used. Tempered glass is more economical and suitable for general standard courts; while laminated glass is safer and suitable for professional competitions or venues with large traffic.
📌Danish customer case description
A customer from Denmark consulted: They planned to build an indoor ice hockey rink, but did not know what kind of glass to use for the ice hockey rink. The customer was worried that the glass would be damaged after a period of use, and was also worried about the safety of the spectators or athletes.
According to the communication with the customer, we learned that the rink is mainly used for youth training, so we recommend the use of laminated glass, which will not fall apart even if it breaks during impact, and can effectively protect the players. At the same time, the sound insulation effect of laminated glass can provide a quiet environment for the training camp.
After listening to the advice, the customer chose 12mm+1.52PVB+12mm laminated glass. We also provide a steel structure frame and installation instructions to ensure that the glass can be correctly and safely installed on the rink.

When choosing ice hockey rink glass, you need to choose according to the usage scenario, budget and safety requirements. If you want to save costs, you can choose tempered glass; if you have high requirements for safety, it is recommended to use laminated glass.
