Why Artificial Turf Is Replacing Natural Grass in Modern Sports Fields?

Artificial turf is becoming more common in football fields, padel courts, schools, and training centers.

A few years ago, many clubs still preferred natural grass, but maintenance costs have increased a lot. Watering, cutting grass, repairing damaged areas, and seasonal maintenance require both time and money.

Artificial grass is easier to manage for facilities with heavy daily usage.

Modern turf systems are also improving. Many manufacturers now focus more on:

• softer yarn

• stronger UV resistance

• more natural appearance

• better drainage

• stable ball rebound

We had one customer from Spain who originally used a cheaper turf system for a football training center. After one summer season, the color fading became obvious.

Later they upgraded to a turf system with better UV resistance. The price was slightly higher, but the field appearance stayed much more stable.

Padel court turf is also growing quickly.

Compared with football grass, padel turf usually uses shorter pile height and focuses more on ball speed consistency and movement comfort. Blue turf remains very popular in Europe because it improves court appearance and ball visibility.

Suitable Projects Temporary or low-budget projects Professional sports and commercial projects

Landscape artificial grass is another fast-growing segment.

Hotels, villas, cafes, and rooftop projects use synthetic turf because it keeps a green appearance throughout the year.

Some landscaping customers care more about:

• softer touch

• mixed yarn colors

• lower plastic shine

• heat resistance

• better recovery after stepping

Of course, quality differences between suppliers can still be large.

Some low-cost turf products may look acceptable at first, but after strong sunlight and rain exposure, problems like color fading or backing separation can appear.

That is why many professional buyers now focus more on long-term stability instead of simply choosing the cheapest price.
